It sounds counterproductive, but make the first stop on your trip at the store or business furthest from your home. This will allow the engine to warm up properly and reduce short-trip side effects such as water accumulation in your exhaust system, which can contribute to excessive wear on your muffler and exhaust pipe.
And running with a warm engine is more fuel-efficient, too.
