GOLF TIPS

How's your downswing? Did you know that many golfers are given bad advice when it comes to this swing? The problem is, most players start into the motion of the downswing by turning their shoulders. The shoulders should actually remain somewhat square during ball impact.

Your golf grip is at the foundation of your overall performance. Although many golfers know this, they don't spend enough time perfecting it.

You can gain 20 to 40 more yards on every drive simply by taking more time to select the right golf club. Test out all different brands of clubs by hitting hundreds of balls per club. This will help you select just that right one.

Don't forget about golf ettiquette. Try not to talk or move while another person is golfing. Any distraction can severely affect his overall concentration and swing. Remember the Golden Rule!

When you're on the putting green, try not to walk across another golfers putting line. Many don't know this but the imprint your foot makes could alter the path of that golfer's ball and negatively affect his game.

Improve your golf game with balance. The golf pros will tell you that the best way to produce a swing with power and consistency is to maintain your balance throughout the entire swing.

Young golfers should consider taking golf lessons as to avoid picking up any bad habits. Habits are hard to break or correct once they're learned.

Sharpen your short iron game by practicing on a challenging Par 3 course. Be sure to always tee up. This allows you to hit the ball safely and helps you avoid "thin hits".

Most experienced golfers will tell you to "swing" the clubhead"as opposed to "hitting" the ball. Play through the ball. Think of a pendulem that swings back and forth.

Don't forget to warm up before your golf game. Use stretching exercises that will help prepare you for the body bending and swinging that's ahead of you.

You are your own golfer.
Try not to let tips or other peoples advice intrude on your head too much, once you find your swing shape it to yourself , remember every person has a different game one tip that works for someone else might be a disasterous addition to your regime.

A few tips that could help you fix those slices and hooks...

As a basic, your right elbow should stay fairly close to your body- starting from your backswing and ending with the follow through. When the elbow opens up from the body, you are more likely to hit slices and hooks.

Lengthen the "drag" of your backswing. Allow the head of your club to move parallel to the ground as long as possible before levating up on the backswing - the left arm should stay fairly straight during the downswing.

Move the ball back or forward depending on the direction in which your ball curves.

Loosen your grip.
