Tennis Tips

Enjoy the game while you play it. If you play the game for fun, just like a kid playing the game, you're much less likely to make mistakes because you're too tense.

Playing tennis requires short and intense outputs of energy. In order to be a successful player you must be extremely fit as well as skilled.

Try not to move your head as much when you watch the ball. Rather, follow the ball with your eyes. This will prevent you from getting off balance or becoming dizzy while you play.

Exploit your opponent's weaknesses and deficiencies. If they have a weak backhand, make them use it.

Know how to hit a one handed backhand. As you swing with the dominant hitting arm, the other arm needs to extend back and away from the body.

If you get upset or discouraged during the game due to mistakes, just remember to keep your focus on the ball. Don't get distracted by worrying about what has already happened.

Your mental game is just as important as your physical game. You must be able to make quick decisions under a lot of pressure.

To avoid blisters, keep your hands as dry as possible. Wipe the sweat off of them when they become damp.

Wear sunglasses while you play. This will keep you from being distracted or blinded by the brightness.

Figure out a way of playing that consistently wins points for you. Know which shots are your strongest and use them as much as possible.

When you're on the back line, keep your body facing forward and skip sideways back and forth when you're going from side to side instead of turning to run in either direction. This will save you a little time and it will keep you focused better and your body in a "ready" position. It's a great little trick that has helped my game.
