You may have heard it said to "Write from the heart." It is true that the more you can give honestly of yourself in a song, the more personal appeal you will have to the listener. This is a big reason for the tremendous success of Hip Hop - the personal rap lyrics.

Have writer's block? Try this - get out your favorite song. Now, remove the melody and play just the harmonies or chord changes. Now, create your own melody. There is no copy write infringement - successful composers have been doing this for years.

Want to arrange music without paying royalties? Arrange a work in the "Public Domain". Safest to stick to "Classical Music".

A great way to get experience is by offering to compose for free. Find someone with a video project, or a singer who needs a new song. Treat it as if it were a paying gig.

The standard fee for composition is around $100 per page of completed sheet music, give or take depending on where you live.
